Consider Us Attuned: A Long-Time Partner’s Take on Octave’s Bold New Direction

In May 2026, Hexagon announced the successful completion of the spin-off of Octave Intelligence from the parent company Hexagon AB. The new company is comprised of the former Hexagon’s Asset Lifecycle Intelligence and Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial divisions, in addition to Bricsys, ETQ, and Projectmates businesses.

Octave Logo

Octave operates as an independent software and SaaS business with a unified portfolio spanning EAM, APM, safety, infrastructure, and geospatial intelligence. The product most of us have spent our careers with—formerly HxGN EAM—is now named Octave Attune EAM as part of the Octave rebrand. For industrial organizations running Attune EAM, this is a signal of continued investment, a clearer product roadmap, and a software company built specifically around the technology lifecycle challenges that asset-intensive industries face every day.

The core capabilities remain intact: work order management, MRO inventory, compliance, mobile, and digital twin integration. However, the product direction is sharper, with embedded AI assistance, tighter EAM-APM integration, and a SaaS-first architecture. This approach is designed to scale with your operations rather than against them. For organizations that have long believed in this product, Octave’s launch is validation. For those still evaluating, it removes the last reason to wait.

Building on Decades of Experience

To appreciate where Attune EAM is today, it helps to know a little about its history.

Its roots go back to 1983, when UK-based Resource Management Systems built RAPIER, one of the earliest CMMS solutions designed to run independent of any specific hardware. After a series of ownership changes and a major product merger, Datastream Systems (Greenville, SC) acquired the SQL Systems Group in 1997 and renamed the solution MP5 the following year. As web architecture became the standard, Datastream rearchitected it, first as MP5i, then in Java as Datastream 7i, its fully web-native successor.

In 2006, Infor acquired Datastream Systems and rebranded it as Infor EAM, significantly expanding its capabilities and enterprise integrations.

Hexagon’s 2021 acquisition of Infor’s EAM business brought it into a world-class industrial technology portfolio with another rebrand: HxGN EAM.

Most of these transitions were genuine technology pivots, not just nameplate changes. The most recent one is different: as Octave Attune EAM, the underlying product stays the same. What’s new is a sharper identity built for where it’s headed next.

What Stratum and TRM Bring to the Table

My perspective on all of this isn’t academic. It’s been shaped by decades of working in and around this product. And more recently by what Stratum Consulting Partners brought to TRM when we were acquired in early 2025.

We founded Stratum Consulting Partners in 2003 in Broomfield, CO, and built our entire practice around HxGN EAM. Over two decades, our team delivered implementations across energy, transit, water and wastewater, food and beverage, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and hospitality.

We earned Octave Alliance Partner status, and in 2025 were recognized as Digital Assets Outstanding Alliance Partner for North America. This is a reflection of genuine technical depth and client results, not just partner status. When Stratum joined TRM, that expertise came with it: best-practice implementation methodology, master data strategy, cloud migration playbooks, and a team that knows this product at the deepest level.

Stratum’s capabilities are only part of the story. TRM’s broader portfolio, built through strategic acquisitions backed by 424 Capital, brings world-class reliability strategy and maintenance optimization through IDCON and PCA. This creates the operational foundation that makes EAM investments truly pay off. Through Sheffield Scientific, we also bring OT cybersecurity capabilities, including Serket, our purpose-built OT cybersecurity software, to industrial clients navigating growing threats to operational technology networks.

As Attune EAM integrates deeper into OT environments and IoT data streams, cybersecurity isn’t a separate conversation—it’s part of how we deliver full solution value, safely and compliantly.

The Moment in Front of Us

Octave’s launch represents a convergence of timing and capability that doesn’t come around often. Attune EAMhas a dedicated owner, a clear SaaS roadmap, and AI-assisted capabilities that are production-ready—not on a future release list. TRM, with Stratum’s longstanding Octave partnership at its core, is positioned to help industrial organizations move decisively. Whether that means a first-time implementation, a cloud migration from an aging on-premises deployment, or a reliability-driven transformation that connects maintenance strategy to technology execution.

If you’ve been running HxGN EAM and wondering what the transition to Attune EAM means for your environment, the answer is: less disruption than you might expect, and more opportunity than you might realize. That’s exactly the kind of assessment we do.
